I completed my undergraduate medical training in Ireland and postgraduate specialization in Anesthesiology and Critical Care Medicine in the United Kingdom.
I relocated to Canada in 2009 to undertake a clinical and research fellowship and a fellowship in neuro-anesthesiology with the University Health Network in Toronto. During this time, I also completed a Master’s in Clinical Trials through the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine. In 2012, I was appointed Assistant Professor in Anesthesiology and Critical Care Medicine at Queen’s University.
Research Interests:
I am an active member of the Canadian Critical Care Trials Group and serve as Vice Chair of the Canadian Anesthesiology Research Advisory Committee
I currently lead two peer review funded studies: a national study exploring humanity, empathy, and compassion among critical care physicians, and a local study examining family members’ perceptions of compassionate care in the ICU.
As lead for the KHSC critical care ‘3 wishes program’. I am deeply committed to improving the patient experience and quality of care through patient and family engagement, compassion-centered care, and patient-focused mixed methods research.
In October 2025, I will begin a postgraduate certification in Qualitative Research Methods at Oxford University. I look forward to applying and sharing the knowledge gained to enhance mentorship and collaboration in mixed methods research and to generate impactful evidence that leads to tangible improvements in care

My clinical time is divided between anesthesiology and critical care medicine with a special interest in neuro-anesthesiology
