Dan Howes is an Emergency Medicine physician and specialist in Intensive Care at Queen’s University. His research is focused on resuscitation medicine, particularly crisis leadership, decision making and cognitive load. As an educator he has an interest in the use of simulation, particularly the adoption, evaluation and integration of emerging technologies.
Dr. Howes’ academic mission is in the promotion resuscitation medicine as a subspecialty. He is the founder and director of the Kingston Resuscitation Institute, and led the team that established the first fellowship training program in Resuscitation and Reanimation medicine.
Dr. Howes has held the positions of Program Director and Department Chair of Critical Care Medicine at Queen’s University.
Research Interests:
Dr. Howes' primary research interests are leadership, crisis decision making and cognitive load.
Clinical/Academic Interests:
Dr. Howes' primary academic interests are resuscitation, medical education and medical simulation. He is the residency program director for the Critical Care Program, and also directs the Fellowship Program in Resuscitation and Reanimation offered through the Department of Emergency Medicine and the Kingston Resuscitation Institute.
