Dr. Huzel completed her BSc(Medicine) and MD degrees in addition to residencies in Internal Medicine, Respiratory Medicine and Intensive Care Medicine at the University of Manitoba. She became a faculty member at McMaster University in 2001, working at the Firestone Institute for Respiratory Health, and was Director of the McMaster Respiratory Medicine Training Program. She joined Lakeridge Health in 2007, and is currently a member of the Department of Critical Care as well as the Department of Medicine (Respirology Division). Dr. Huzel has held several leadership roles at Lakeridge Health including acting Critical Care Lead, Chief/Medical Director of Quality, Safety and Patient Experience, and her current role of Assistant Medical Director, Department of Medicine.
Since 2016, Dr. Huzel has been a member of the Medical Commission of the International Fencing Federation and has worked at multiple World Fencing Championships and 2 Olympic Games. She holds an International Olympic Committee Certificate in Drugs in Sport, and is a member of the Therapeutic Use Exemption Committee of the International Testing Agency.
